BANGKOK, Thailand – Consumer protection police have inspected an oil depot in Ang Thong province following complaints of unusually high fuel prices in nearby areas, uncovering large fuel reserves and possible pricing irregularities.
The operation was led by Pol Maj Gen Kongkrit Lertsittikul, commander of the Consumer Protection Police Division, along with officials from the provincial energy and commerce offices. The inspection followed reports that service stations in Sing Buri were selling fuel at levels above normal, with the supply traced back to the Ang Thong distributor.
Authorities found more than 331,000 liters of fuel stored at the depot, including about 48,000 liters of diesel, 210,000 liters of gasohol 95, and 73,000 liters of gasohol 91, with an estimated value exceeding 12.5 million baht. Investigators said diesel had been sold at 40.50 baht per liter, above prevailing market levels.
The company stated it had purchased fuel at 39.50 baht per liter but was unable to provide supporting documents when requested. Officials have collected samples for quality testing and submitted them for excise review, with further legal action to follow if violations are confirmed. (NNT)
