CHIANG RAI, Thailand – Authorities in Chiang Rai province are closely monitoring rising river levels after overnight rainfall pushed the Sai River to 4.01 meters, nearing the 4.20-meter critical level. A yellow-level “Be Prepared” warning remains in effect for Mae Sai and Mae Fa Luang districts. According to the Department of Water Resources, the Sai River measured 4.01 meters at a monitoring station in Wiang Phang Kham subdistrict, Mae Sai district, at 8 a.m. In Mae Fa Luang district, the water level reached 3.14 meters at Ban Samakkhi Mai, below the area’s 4.50-meter critical level, but authorities also issued a yellow-level preparedness alert.
Officials said no additional flooding or flash flood damage had been reported in the province as of 8:15 a.m. They added that rainfall and river levels are being monitored continuously, with emergency response teams ready if conditions worsen. Residents in low-lying areas, communities along the Sai River, and other flood-prone locations in Mae Sai and Mae Fa Luang districts have been advised to move valuables to higher ground, prepare for possible flooding, and follow updates from government agencies.
