BURIRAM, Thailand – A major fire destroyed 10 homes in a densely populated community beside Wat Hong, a well-known temple in Phutthaisong district, Buriram, late on October 29. No injuries or deaths were reported. Police received a report of the fire at around 9.30pm in the Sisa Raet community, Moo 11, Mafueang subdistrict. Flames quickly spread between neighboring houses, sending residents fleeing into the night.

More than 10 fire engines from Phutthaisong Municipality and nearby local authorities in Phutthaisong and Na Pho districts rushed to the scene. Firefighters faced difficulties because of the closely packed homes and narrow access roads, making it difficult to prevent the blaze from spreading.

After more than three hours of firefighting, crews brought the blaze under control. Ten houses were completely destroyed, along with household belongings and other property. Investigators have cordoned off the area and called in forensic officers to determine the cause. An electrical short circuit is among the initial possibilities, but this has not been confirmed. Phutthaisong District Office, the municipality and local police have established an assistance centre, arranged temporary accommodation and begun providing emergency support to affected families.

More than 10 fire engines rushed to the tightly packed community, where narrow access roads made it difficult to contain the flames.

Residents escaped into the night as the fire spread from house to house, leaving 10 families with their homes and belongings destroyed.
