Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas announces the rapid sell-out of Thailand’s first Government Savings Bond Plus, with more monthly offerings planned.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas has announced that the first tranche of Government Savings Bond Plus sold out in 21 seconds after subscriptions opened through the PDMO Wallet on the Paotang application. The initial offering totaled 2 billion baht. Ekniti said the monthly bond program is intended to encourage long-term savings while helping address high household debt, declining national savings, and the financial challenges of Thailand’s aging population. The bonds offer fixed annual interest rates of 1.80% for a three-year maturity and 2.80% for a 10-year maturity.

The bonds are available from 100 baht through the PDMO Wallet on the Paotang application and from 1,000 baht through participating banks, securities companies, and the Streaming application. The ministry said the bonds will be issued every month and can also be traded on the secondary market. The Ministry of Finance said another subscription period will be held from August 3 to 5 through the Bond Connect Platform, with a minimum investment of 1,000 baht under the Small Lot First allocation method for retail investors. The ministry added that monthly bond offerings will continue to provide regular opportunities for long-term saving and investment. (NNT)
