Thai Olympic champion Panipak Wongpattanakit has secured her third Grand Slam gold medal in the women’s under-49kg division at the Paris 2022 World Taekwondo Grand Prix championship.

For the final, she soundly defeated Turkey’s MerveDincel 2-0, scoring 6-0 and 11-6 in the first and second round, respectively.



Panipak had defeated South Korea’s Bora Kang in the semi-finals after defeating Morocco’s two-time African champion Olumama El Bouchti in the quarter finals. Dincel had edged Germany’s ElaAydin prior to the final bout, with both results ending 2-1.

After winning the final, Panipak was awarded a check for US$5,000 and 60 accumulated points for the Summer Olympic Games in 2024, which will also be held in Paris. She also said she would give her medal to her father for his birthday.
Her next World Grand Prix is set to take place in the UK in October of this year. (NNT)
