YALA, 1 July 2015 Smoke affecting the Betong district in Yala province has begun to recede, allowing air pollution levels to return to normal.

The sky in Betong, Yala has becoming clearer with some sunshine, as smoke from the wildfires in Indonesia that had covered the area is getting thinner, while overall weather conditions have almost returned to normal.

The Yala Provincial Natural Resources and Environment Office Director Kanlaya Tohwae-ayi announced on Wednesday that particulate matter up to 10 micrometers in size (PM10) in the southern provinces of Songkhla, Satun, Narathiwat, and Yala had been recorded between 30-29 micrograms per cubic meter, indicating that the air quality was moving towards a moderate level.

She said that airborne particles were recorded at lower levels than on previous days and won’t harm public health. She added that the provincial office will continue to monitor air quality in southern provinces.
