Interior Ministry to survey damages sustained from earthquake

BANGKOK, 17 April 2012 – The Ministry of Interior has been assigned to inspect the damage sustained in the provinces which have been affected by the recent earthquake, as well as coming up with a solution to the the problem of communication failure during times of emergency. 

Prior to her trip to China, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra stated that following the recent earthquake, relevant agencies have been instructed to monitor the situation closely. The Interior Ministry has been assigned to inspect the damage sustained in Phuket province where the integrity of its numerous old, high-rising buildings must undergo detailed inspection for safety purposes.

Additionally, the Strategic Committee for Water Resources Management has been tasked with overseeing the solution to telephone communication failure, which took place when the earthquake rocked the province. However, it has been reported that SMS service was still available, through which to communicate, despite the telephone failure.
