Pattaya workers have replaced a half-dozen drain covers before rainy season really sets in.

Sanitation Department chief Manus Thunginth directed workers to replace iron grates on Second Road that had cracked or rusted. Workers also used drills and jackhammers to clear drains of obstructions.

Manus said residents can call the Pattaya Call Center at 1337 if they know of more broken drain covers, which pose safety risks to motorists.

At the same time he urged people not to use city drains as garbage cans, as it only exacerbates flooding during rainstorms.
