law-enforcement agencies address the Pattaya Business & Tourism
Association about the coming ASEAN Economic Community.

Area law-enforcement agencies say they are ready for
the coming ASEAN Economic Community, with technology and processes in
place to monitor tourists and track foreign criminals.
Speaking to the Pattaya Business & Tourism
Association Sept. 12, Banglamung Police Superintendent Col. Somnuk
Changate and Chonburi Police Deputy Superintendent Phanomphrai Jakkrapas
reviewed technology and processes put in place for the start of the AEC
in 2015.
Phanomphrai explained that the Chonburi Immigration
Office has conducted language training and installed technology to
accommodate three languages, although he admitted the private sector is
needed to donate or pay for more technology.
He said hotels and guesthouses have been educated on
how to register tourists, which makes monitoring blacklisted individuals
easier.
Somnuk said Banglamung and Royal Thai Police
officials are focusing on popular tourist destinations and reviewing
statistics on crimes committed by foreigners. He said an analysis of two
years of crime statistics will be presented to top RTP officials to
draft an interagency strategy on how to combat and control foreign
criminals.
