Bangkok Airways adds third daily flight to Phnom Penh
Bangkok Airways has added a third daily flight between Bangkok and Phnom
Penh beginning March 29 to provide mid-day traffic between the two
capitals.
Traditional
dances promote Bangkok Airways’ new service between Bangkok and Phnom
Penh.
The launch was made in conjunction with the change of aircraft on the
route from the Airbus 320 to the dual-class A319 with 12 business class
seats, also being promoted as the airline’s new Blue Ribbon Class, and
108 economy class seats.
The airline’s sales vice-president, Ariya Prasarttong-Osoth, said Phnom
Penh as a destination presents high potential and consistent growth, and
to add an afternoon flight and business class service would handle the
demand and satisfy both tourist and business travelers.
The new flight will complement the airline’s existing early-morning and
evening traffic between Bangkok and Phnom Penh.

Khalid takes up the position at the same time the airline has decided to
boost Dubai-Bangkok service by 30 percent with the plan to introduce
Airbus 380 on the route from June 1.
According to Khalid, the current load factors on Emirates’ operations
from Bangkok with 21 flights per week to Dubai, a daily flight to Hong
Kong and a daily flight to Sydney through to Christchurch exceed 95
percent.
“We expect the trend to continue or improve, depending on (the travel
demand),” he said.
Tax deduction little help
to Thai domestic MICE
Watchiranont Thongtep, TTG Asia
Thai corporates have expressed a lukewarm response to the government tax
deduction scheme announced earlier this year to keep meetings and seminars
within Thailand.
They said this year’s events had all been confirmed in advance, particularly
incentives, as the purpose is to motivate sales teams to work harder to win the
trips.
Krungthai Car Rent and Lease human resource manager, Pansakorn Roadbunjop, said
the company had not changed its plan to hold twice-monthly in-house meetings,
seven domestic trips and two overseas trips this year.
However, he said he planned to add three to five people on each domestic trip.
“But this has nothing to do with the government’s new tax scheme, as we normally
can get a tax refund on our training programs under the Skill Development
Promotion (SDP) Act 2002.”
The SDP Act allow companies to obtain refunds at twice the amount of tax paid
for all training-related expenses including rooms, meeting facilities and
training programs.
However, the government’s stimulus tax scheme only allows companies hosting
events at Thai destinations to deduct their corporate taxable income by twice
the value of the expenses on rooms and meeting facilities.
Bumrungrad International human resource training and development supervisor,
Ratchada Pornputtkul, said the company “might” consider applying for the tax
deduction scheme, but was unlikely to shift the planned overseas trips to hold
them within Thailand.
Bangkok Aviation Fuel Services human resources development supervisor, Piyaporn
Numee, said the company had called for all events to be held inside the office
to combat the global recession, not to get the tax deduction.

On March 19, the Pattaya Tourist Police, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Suwan
Un-anan (Inspector at Pattaya City Tourist Police Station 4) along with Tourist
Police Volunteers organized the “Loving Local Youth Project”. Organizers hope
that during the project, local youngsters will learn about the Tourist Police
mission, with the goal being that they will participate in presentations at
important tourist destinations.
13-year-old
Photisamphan Pittayakarn student, Miss Wiyuda Karaket, said she was happy to
take part in this project.
Pol. Lt. Col. Suwan said that activities were held to help youngsters learn
foreign languages so that they might help introduce tourists to local tourist
destinations.
“This time, 37 secondary school students from Photisamphan Pittayakarn School
and Aksornsuksa School were brought to visit locations such as Mini Siam. This
was done so the youngsters would be aware of and have knowledge of interesting
tourist destinations in Pattaya. This network will be expanded to other schools
in Pattaya City as well,” Lt. Col. Suwan said.
Miss Wiyuda Karaket, a 13-year-old student from Photisamphan Pittayakarn School
said, “I am happy to participate in this project, because I wish to help Thai
and foreign tourists learn about interesting tourist destinations, so that more
tourists will come to Pattaya City.”
