Clubs & Associations

The next Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) meeting will be on Sunday, April 12. The club meets every Sunday morning at Henry J. Bean’s Restaurant on the north end of Beach Road in the grounds of the Amari Orchid Resort. The program starts as usual at 10:30 a.m. with a buffet breakfast available from 9:30 to 11 a.m., everyone welcome. Each week the PCEC has an interesting speaker to talk on various subjects of interest in an informal setting. This week, there will be a special Songkran celebration involving the pouring of water over the hands of one’s elders. This will be the third year that this traditional and beautiful Songkran ceremony is observed by the PCEC with Henry J. Beans specially decorated for the occasion. This program will be followed by the ever-lively and often humorous Open Forum and an update on the happenings in and around Pattaya. A full report appears each week in Pattaya Mail. For the past 28 years the Samaritans of Thailand have been providing confidential crisis intervention services over the telephone. The English-speaking unit, Samaritans English Help Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide support to the expatriate community. English-speaking staff, trained in crisis intervention will provide active, non-judgmental and empathetic listening services on the phone. Fine dining at Shenanigans: two great Irish Pubs - two great locations in Pattaya & Jomtien. You can enjoy the same weekly specials but on different days. Can you sing? A new chorus group forming in the Pattaya is looking for men and women who love to sing. If you can carry a tune and can read music, it’s a plus, but not a necessity. Shoot the Moon Party: Live Play, Pattaya’s new ten rai laser tag battlefield, invites everyone to experience its first ‘Shoot the Moon Party’ on Saturday, April 11 from 6 to 10 p.m. This is the first of a new series of monthly parties every Saturday after the full moons at Live Play. During the April full moon, Live Play will lay out a spread of Thai-Mex barbecue and bottomless kegs of Heineken draft for an evening of live music and DJs and dancing and laser games. Thailand’s guitar king, Lam Morrison, will lead his band (from Walking Street’s Blues Factory) in a classic rock concert; Q Bar star, DJ Tech 12, will follow with mash ups and hip hop hits, while Pattaya’s custom car clubs will provide coyotes dancing on wooferized hot rods. Pro Am laser games led by Live Play’s staff stuntmen will be open to all. Free Character Portraits at the new Gubai Art Gallery. Gallery owner and fine artist Jieng Sae Jern is offering a special invitation to visit the Gubai Art Gallery on Thursdays from noon to 6 p.m. for tea, conversation and your own free character portrait. Jieng Sae Jern was born in China and, with his family, fled to freedom in Thailand during the Cultural Revolution. He returned to China for extensive study in classical arts which is reflected in his eclectic and contemporary applications. He has a deep interest in creating works which allow a western perspective to touch the spirit of traditional Chinese artistic expression. Gallery Opium, in conjunction with Bangkok-based art critic Brian Curtin is currently presenting an exhibition titled New Ecologies. This is the first of what is expected to become an annual exhibition and festival of visual arts and related events in Pattaya. The exhibition presents the contemporary works of a wide range of expatriate and local artists through to April 25 at the Sheraton Pattaya Resort.
