Ploenchit Fair to
be held at the Royal Plaza on November 24
The British Community in Thailand Foundation for the
Needy (BCTFN) is excited to announce a bigger venue this year for
Ploenchit Fair.
By the kind courtesy of the Bureau of the Crown
Property, Ploenchit Fair will be held in the Royal Plaza,
Ratchadamnern-Nok/Sri Ayutthaya Road. This venue was most recently
occupied by the Supreme Command and offers ample space and security for an
event of this magnitude.
Royal Plaza is opposite Suan Amporn, next to Dusit Zoo
and Parliament Buildings and is flanked by Wat Benchamaborphit (Marble
Temple) and the Chitlada Palace. Set amongst these historical sites and
the Avenues of the Chakri Dynasty, this venue brings a new aspect of Thai
tradition to Ploenchit Fair.
It is easily reached by skytrain or bus and has ample
parking on the large square outside.
As usual, the format of Ploenchit will be a typical
fairground with fun and games for all ages, lots of shopping with bargains
galore, live entertainment and food and drinks of all descriptions to keep
you going throughout the day. Plus, plus, plus - many new features which
this larger venue affords.
Remember that all revenue raised during the day goes
entirely to supporting Thai charities throughout the country - so please
continue to support the fair in the knowledge that the more fun you have,
the more benefits you’ll bring to the needy.
Gates will open at 10.00 a.m. - bring your family and
friends.

SBI Superstar can make you a musical
megastar
After weeks of tantalizing the public with insertions in
the Pattaya Mail announcing SBI Superstar, but no opening date or location,
the general manager, Fred Wilson has finally spilled the beans. SBI
Superstar opens Friday November 9th, opposite the new Lotus on North Pattaya
Road and adjacent to the Thai House Restaurant.
The SBI Superstar Action Karaoke group is an interesting
combination of the best Karaoke lounge operator in Pattaya (Fred Wilson’s
Sing a Song Karaoke) and the premier music production house in the world
(the SBI group).
For 13 years, Fred ran his karaoke lounge in North
Pattaya and when he closed earlier this year he promised that he would be
back, bigger and better than ever. Meeting up with Jim Woodford, the founder
of the SBI group in the UK, has resulted in a business partnership which has
big plans in Asia, with Woodford saying that the new SBI Action Karaoke
group is planning to have six SBI clubs up and running by the end of next
year. Likely venues include Bangkok, Beijing, Manila, Taipei and Hong Kong.
However, with the reputation of Fred Wilson being so high in Thailand, the
new group has made the first Asian Action Karaoke club right here in
Pattaya.
As opposed to the “standard” karaoke lounge around
town, the SBI Superstar Action Karaoke has more than just music. They have
opened a comfortable restaurant section selling both Thai and Western
dishes. In this way they hope to attract large parties, but even just those
who would like a quick snack and a song after work to wind down will be made
very welcome.
However, the karaoke side will be real action. There are
song titles in 20 different languages and dancers on stage to make you a
“star” complete with your own chorus line. If you want, your performance
can be recorded on high quality Video CD or VHS tape, a memento of your trip
to Thailand, or kept as an example of what you could have done, if you had
chosen music for a career. However, if you would rather perform in private,
there are VIP private rooms available too.
The new SBI Superstar Action Karaoke is a first for
Pattaya, a first for Thailand and indeed a first for Asia. Make yourselves
known to Fred Wilson and his wife Kanika - you too can be a “superstar”!
Shenanigans goes acoustic
Declan
starred at the Shenanigans acoustic afternoon
Shenanigans Pub on Second Road heralded a
change from the usual twanging electric guitars, by featuring an acoustic
afternoon last Sunday. With easy listening music from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m., it
attracted a family audience. “Star” of the show was Declan, who is
showing a greater breadth in his repertoire with each performance. He was
backed up by Nic Salmon and Mark Bradshaw, both from the ISR
