Timely police patrol interrupts bizarre attempted murder
On October 14, police officers rushed to the aid of Mr.
Praves Sawangkul, 59, who had been stabbed in the chest with a knife. The
wound was critical and he was crying for help in the middle of Soi Sanarm
Golf, behind the train station. A short distance away was Mr. Praves’ son,
Prasong, 26, who had received a blow to the face with a railroad tie. Not
far from the two Ms. Chaweewan Numrit, 40, stood holding a blood stained
knife and laughing in a most depraved fashion.
Police immediately arrested the woman, then took her and her weapons to the
Banglamung police station. Other officers took the two hapless victims to a
physician for treatment.
Praves told police that he and his son were walking to a restaurant after
finishing work when Chaweewan (who has an organic brain syndrome) passed
them. With no provocation, she pulled out the knife and stabbed Praves in
the chest. In defence, Praves’ son kicked Chaweewan to the ground and
hurried to help his father.
Chaweewan then picked up the railroad tie and struck Prasong in the face.
Fortunately a police patrol was passing by and stopped the mayhem. Officers
say if they had not happened upon the incident, both men would probably have
been murdered.
Police interrogation of Chaweewan was futile as she was babbling and
delirious.
