Military veterans donated fire-resistant fabric and basic
necessities to marines serving in Thailand’s strife-ridden south.
Adm. Chaiwat Sathondee, head of the War Veterans Organization, made the
donation while laying flower garlands at the Royal Thai Marines monument
at Krom Luang Chumphon Camp in Sattahip Dec. 17.
The group presented 200 rolls of the digital camouflage fabric, which
can be crafted into uniforms, and 5,000 packages of daily necessities to
Vice Adm. Sonthaya Noichaya, commander of the Marine Corps.
Adm. Chaiwat also thanked the marines for ordering products in the past
from the War Veterans group, providing it revenue needed to aid 3
million retired service people in Thailand and their families.
He said the group believes in the importance of marines as the unit
maintaining peace in the three southern provinces. Peace, however, has
been in short supply since 2004, with more than 7,000 people, including
hundreds of servicemen, killed in the separatist insurgency.
