This modern day military
chuck wagon, which can produce up to 7,000 meals daily, is being used to
help flood victims.
Area officials, aid organizations and hospitals have
mobilized to help residents of Phanat Nikom and Panthong after the second
typhoon of the season exacerbated already critical flooding problems in the
Chonburi districts.
Typhoon Nari, which followed closely on the heels of Typhoon Wutip, pounded
the region Oct. 15-16, flooded the two low-lying districts with runoff from
Bothong, Nongyai, Banbung and Koh Chan, again inundating residents near the
Bangpakong River.
Residents were instructed to move to higher ground and Chonburi Gov. Khomsan
Ekachai solicited help from volunteers to move people’s valuables to dry
areas.
The governor toured the two districts Oct. 18, particularly the important
Klua Canal. Phanat Nikhom District Chief Chakorn Kanjawat distributed drinks
to residents and officials set up an aid center staffed by volunteers to
help.
Military forces from the 21st Maintenance Battalion, 21st Transmission and
Service Battalion, and 21st Ordnance Ammunition Battalion help citizens
evacuate using 30 trucks and an outdoor kitchen car, which can produce 7,000
meals for flood victims.
Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization President Wittaya Kunplome
and his wife were among the officials cooking 3,000 meals at the Phanat
Nikom district office. The Sawang Boriboon and Sawang Pratheep foundations
also donated 2,000 boxed meals each while Samitivej Hospital Sriracha sent
25 doctors and nurses to perform checkups from Oct. 18-20. (CPRD)
