Four people were hurt when a sailor fell asleep behind the wheel
and crashed into two cars in Sattahip.
A sleepy 1st Marine Sgt. Nipon Phaicharoen, 31, apparently veered over
the line on Route 332 near the Kasempol-Ban Chang intersection Oct. 11,
narrowly avoiding a freight truck, but smashing head-on into a
Mitsubishi sedan driven by Worawut Niljan, 28. He, his girlfriend
Phatcharaporn Phanit, 28, and brother Yuttana Lomwong, 23, all sustained
injuries. All the victims were treated at Queen Sirikit Naval Medical
Center.
Prangnaphran Ratchasingh, the driver of a Mitsubishi L200 loaded with
cassava, said he saw Nipon’s car come into his lane. He swerved to avoid
a collision, but Worawut was traveling close behind and got hit.
