A man who was high on drugs somehow thought it was a good idea to
donate methamphetamines to Sattahip officials trying to raise money for
flood relief.
Flooding that began in mid-September has killed 61 people and affected 3.6
million people across Thailand.
Jakrit Mukpradap, 39, was arrested at Thepprasit Temple Oct. 14 while
offering up 11 ya ba tablets for officials to sell themselves to generate
funds for flood relief. His offer was not accepted.
District Chief Phawat Lertmukda said Jakrit appeared intoxicated when he
arrived at the temporary flood relief center. He even offered to sell the
drugs himself for 3,000 baht and then donate the proceeds.
“Looking high, he showed the volunteers the drugs and told them, ‘I don’t
have any money to donate. Will these do?’” Phawat said. “Little did he know
that the volunteers were actually from a civil drug suppression task force.”
His home was later searched with police finding a 38-caliber handgun. Police
said he admitted to having taken five pills before going to the temple.
While Jakrit’s heart may have been in the right place, the rest of his body
is now behind bars on drug and weapons charges. He could face up to 10
years’ imprisonment.
