out a million baht in scholarships and providing free bicycles.
The Chonburi Red Cross handed out a million baht in
scholarships and provided kids living far from school free bicycles.
Red Cross Vice-President Sasithorn Preechawit led the Sept. 13 donation
ceremony at Chonburi’s Chalermprakiet Pavilion.
Sasithorn said the Red Cross understands that many students lack funds
for years of continuous education and that others are hampered even more
by rural locations far from the classroom. She said poor kids need to
understand they are entitled to the same education as a well-to-do city
dweller.
A total of 205 scholarships worth 1.1 million baht were handed out to
students in 11 districts. Elementary school students were given 2,000
baht for each year of their Prathom education, high school students got
3,000 baht for their three Mattayom years. Vocational school students
were given 10,000 baht each and high-level vocational received 15,000
baht.
In addition, the Red Cross presented 220 bicycles for students in
Chonburi’s 11 districts. The bikes were given to schools which are
responsible for arranging usage by disadvantaged pupils. (CPRD)
