More than 80 employees from the Holiday Inn Pattaya and IBIS
Pattaya 2 hotels shaped rope into artificial trees to be submerged off
the Naklua coast to help restore the marine ecosystem there.
Ussanee Muttakarat, senior manager at the Erawan Group Plc, which owns
the Pattaya hotels, organized the Sept. 7 activity with the Department
of Marine and Coastal Resources of Rayong. Joining them were about 70
students from Wat Nongyai School and Naklua fishermen.
Attendees tied rope into bush and tree formations that can be used as
shelter for animals and a foundation for coral once dropped into the
sea.
Ussanee said nearby residents reported that last year’s reef planting
has resulted in more animals in local waters. “So we were happy to be
able to organized another family activity to plant trees again this year
to build an abundantly sustainable ecosystem and raise awareness from
youths to preserve the aquatic environment,” he said.
