Pattaya will build a new marine assistance center at the site of the
city’s former pier, bringing together police, Marine Department and city
hall administrators to respond to water-related accidents.
Chonburi Gov. Khomsan Ekachai, Region 2 Police deputy chief Maj. Gen.
Sanchai Chai-amporn, and Pattaya Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh met with
bureaucrats and police officials to decide the site of the new center
May 27.
Officials said construction will cost 226,000 baht.
Sanchai said the old pier was an idea location as it
was both on the beach and at the mouth of Walking Street. It will be a
“one-stop center” for tourists to seek help for marine-related problems.
It also will be the base for marine police boats.
The integrated center was mandated by the Tourism and Sports Ministry
following the April 21 speedboat collision that injured 20 South Korean
tourists and guides.
