Sales remain strong as vegetable prices rise

Sales for fruits and
vegetables are still strong, despite prices having risen due to the large,
busy season demand.

Higher prices for vegetables and fruit aren’t turning Pattaya
shoppers into carnivores, as produce sales remain strong.
Stores were reporting shortages of regular and Chinese cabbage, which have
risen to 50 baht per kilogram at the Ton Pot market on Jomtien Second Road
as restaurants and hotels stock up.
Small tomatoes were fetching 100 baht per kilogram, but even larger ones
were still selling, due to a large number of foreign buyers.
Some prices have remained stable, however, including ingredients for tom yum
soup like lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, and onions, which remain about 10
baht per kilogram each.
One vendor said she has had to raise retail prices as the wholesale price
she pays in Bangkok has also gone up.
