Chonburi buys coconuts skins to support farmers

Farmers bring in their coconut skins to sell to the government.

Boonlua Chatree
Chonburi provided aid to area coconut farmers, buying their dried coconut skins to supplement a weak market.
The provincial government bought 1,200 kg. of coconut skins on the first of its two days of buying in Takientia Oct. 11. Another 300 kg. were expected to be purchased the second day.
The government purchase is part of the Coconut Price Stabilization Act, which is propping up the market for coconuts and its byproducts. Best-quality dried skins, which contain less than 5 percent moisture, are bought at 15 baht per kilogram. The selling price is government controlled at 23 baht per kilogram.
Farmers eligible for support must be registered with the province. Those interested in participating should contact FTI Co. at 99 Moo 2 Klongtumrhu, Chonburi.
