BANGKOK, 7 March 2013 Two dozen more leading insurgents in the Deep South are expected to turn themselves in to authorities soon.

According Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, authorities are persuading about 20 leading insurgents to turn themselves in under Section 21 of the Internal Security Act (ISA).

Section 21 allows authorities to waive penalties for insurgents and, with the consent of the court, to make them undergo a “re-education” course lasting no longer than 6 months. Dozens of insurgents have already turned themselves in so far.

The deputy prime minister also said that he planned to ask the Corrections Department to help older insurgents currently detained by allowing them to be transferred to their home provinces, so that their families could visit them more often.
