BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai government has clarified that the Social Security Board election has not been canceled but temporarily suspended following a Central Administrative Court order. Authorities are preparing to appeal the injunction while ensuring the rights of employers and insured individuals remain fully protected.
On July 29, Deputy Government Spokesperson Captain Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn announced that the court issued a temporary injunction suspending the requirement for eligible voters to register before the election. She clarified that this ruling only affects the registration requirement and does not invalidate the entire electoral process. The government respects the court’s decision and is revising its plans to comply with the legal mandate, protect voters’ rights, and ensure transparency in managing the Social Security Fund.
The Ministry of Labour and the Social Security Office are considering legal options, including appealing the injunction or developing new voter registration guidelines. The spokesperson stated that authorities cannot proceed as originally scheduled until these legal issues are resolved to comply with the court order. Once a legal resolution is achieved, the election process will resume promptly to allow employers and insured individuals to vote without further delay. (NNT)
