BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has placed 71 provinces and Bangkok on alert for flash floods, forest runoff, landslides, and flooding through September 13. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in many areas, prompting authorities to advise residents in vulnerable locations to monitor weather conditions, rainfall, and water levels and prepare for possible emergencies.
The alert covers all provinces in the North, Northeast, and Central regions, as well as Bangkok and nine southern provinces: Chumphon, Surat Thani, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Areas receiving more than 90 millimeters of rain within 24 hours are considered at greater risk of flooding, runoff, and landslides.
People in vulnerable communities are advised to prepare essential supplies, plan travel routes, and be ready to evacuate if instructed. Visitors to natural attractions, including caves, waterfalls, and caves with underground waterways, should closely follow official advisories and avoid locations declared unsafe by authorities.
Official warnings are available through the THAI DISASTER ALERT application. The public can report emergencies or request assistance through the DDPM LINE account or the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Hotline 1784, available 24 hours a day. DDPM also encouraged people to share warnings with family, friends, and others in at-risk areas so they can prepare accordingly. (NNT)
