BANGKOK, Thailand – Police and rescue workers rushed to the Yommarat intersection in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district on October 24 after a man allegedly held a child hostage with a knife pressed to the child’s neck. The incident took place beneath the bridge at the Phetchaburi Road intersection, prompting police and Phaya Thai rescue volunteers to respond and negotiate with the man to secure the child’s release.

Initial reports suggested the child might be the man’s son, but authorities had not confirmed their relationship or what led to the incident. Police urged the public to avoid sounding emergency sirens near the scene to prevent further distress and allow officers to manage the situation. Authorities later brought the incident under control and reunited the child safely with the mother.
