BANGKOK, Thailand – Driver elbows Phasi Charoen traffic policeman during license check in Bangkok
A driver allegedly elbowed a traffic police officer in the chest, knocking him to the ground, after being stopped for a license check near Bang Wa BTS station in Bangkok’s Phasi Charoen district on October 24. The incident was captured on video and shared on Facebook.
Police Sub-Lieutenant Sombat Onrakamnoy, a traffic officer, had stopped a blue Honda sedan after noticing an apparent irregularity with its registration plate. When asked to show his driving licence, the driver got out of the car and began arguing with the officer before allegedly striking him in the chest with his elbow.
Police Sergeant Wacharapong Thaiyakorn, who was off duty and drinking coffee nearby, said he rushed to help along with three or four other bystanders. They helped restrain the driver, who was taken to Phasi Charoen Police Station for legal proceedings. Police recorded charges of insulting an official while on duty, assaulting an official while on duty, and resisting or obstructing an official performing his duties. (TNA)
