BANGKOK, Thailand – The central administration has expanded its digital public services with the launch of online vehicle tax payments through the “Pao Tang” application. Deputy Government Spokesperson Anukool Pruksanusak announced that the new feature, developed by the Department of Land Transport in cooperation with Krung Thai Bank, is part of Thailand’s transition toward a fully integrated digital government. The app already supports financial transactions, government benefit disbursement, and everyday spending.
The new feature allows citizens to complete the entire vehicle tax process through the application, including filing the request, making payment, and receiving the physical tax decal delivered by Thailand Post. While waiting for delivery, users can display a temporary digital decal in the app, valid for 15 days. The system also integrates with compulsory motor vehicle insurance, enabling users to purchase coverage instantly before completing the tax payment.
To access the service, drivers select the “Annual Vehicle Tax Payment” option in the Pao Tang app, choose whether to pay for their vehicle or another person’s, and complete the process online. After payment, the digital decal appears immediately, while the printed version is mailed to the registered address.
Anukool added that by 2026, citizens will also be able to renew driver’s licenses and register vehicles online through Pao Tang. The Department of Land Transport plans to begin with private passenger cars with up to seven seats and motorcycles, before expanding to other vehicle types. These upgrades are expected to reduce waiting times, eliminate the need for temporary license plates, and make public services more efficient. (NNT)
