BANGKOK, Thailand – Parliament Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha has called on MPs who were reportedly approached with offers of 10 kilograms of cash in exchange for votes to come forward and reveal the matter, emphasizing that investigations will be conducted if evidence is submitted.
Regarding quorum issues during recent parliamentary sessions, Speaker Wan said it is the responsibility of the government whip to ensure enough members are present for proceedings. He noted that even with closely divided votes, as long as the quorum exceeds half, the House can function and pass legislation.
On the alleged bribe offers tied to the 2026 budget bill and the Entertainment Complex Act, Wan urged MPs not to hesitate in disclosing information, either to party whips, parliamentary leaders, or directly to the Speaker. He stressed that such allegations, whether true or false, tarnish the image of the House. If formal evidence is presented, the Speaker confirmed that the matter would be thoroughly investigated, with strict legal action taken if wrongdoing is found.
Speaker Wan added that anonymous or unclear reports cannot be verified, highlighting the importance of presenting proper documentation to ensure accountability and protect the integrity of the parliamentary institution. (TNA)
