BANGKOK, Thailand – The government is exploring cooperation with Weibo to leverage Chinese digital platforms for promoting Thai tourism, culture, products, and services, and to expand opportunities for Thai businesses in China. Government Spokesperson Ekkapob Pianpises and Deputy Spokesperson Lalida Perisvivatana met with Weibo executives at Government House on September 9, 2026, to discuss enhancing Thailand’s communication with Chinese audiences.
The discussions focused on cooperation in tourism, culture, and trade. For tourism, the government plans to use digital content and creator networks to build confidence in Thailand, attract Chinese visitors, and promote lesser-known destinations to distribute tourism income to local communities. Regarding culture, both parties discussed promoting Thai crafts, fashion, arts, and heritage through digital channels to increase awareness of Thai soft power among Chinese consumers.
On trade, the discussions focused on increasing visibility and confidence in Thai products and brands, with the goal of connecting consumers to online commercial channels. This approach could especially benefit Thai businesses in the food, tourism, culture, and lifestyle sectors. Both sides also considered future cultural and communication activities in Thailand to further link tourism, cultural promotion, and business opportunities with Chinese audiences. The government views direct digital engagement with Chinese consumers as an opportunity to convert awareness of Thailand into tourism, trade, and income-generating opportunities for Thai businesses and communities.
