Thai police said injuries suffered by former Formula One driver Mika Salo were caused by blunt impact consistent with a motorcycle accident, not a knife attack.

BANGKOK, Thailand – A forensic examination of an injury sustained by former Formula One driver Mika Salo showed his wounds had “irregular edges” and were not caused by a knife, a Royal Thai Police spokesperson said on Wednesday. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan stated that he personally met with the Finnish tourist, who confirmed he was not assaulted. Salo believes the injury resulted from a motorcycle accident while heading back to his accommodation.

Forensic doctors at the Police General Hospital who examined the wounds reported that the jagged edges indicated impact from a blunt object rather than a sharp weapon. CCTV footage tracked by the Metropolitan Police showed Salo drinking at a restaurant before moving to another venue. He reported being clipped by a motorcycle on his way back but could not recall the license plate. While some areas lacked camera coverage, footage captured him boarding a taxi. The taxi driver’s testimony, noting that the passenger was using tissues to staunch bleeding, aligned with Salo’s account. Police are continuing their investigation to clarify the full details of the incident. (TNA)
