BANGKOK, Thailand – Police have resolved the disappearance of a 37-year-old Chinese tourist who had been reported missing after losing contact with friends on August 13. Investigators from Metropolitan Police Division 3, working with officers from Metropolitan Police Division 6 and Bang Rak Police Station, reviewed CCTV footage and traced the tourist’s movements in an effort to determine what happened.
The investigation found that the tourist travelled to the entrance of Soi Convent on Sathorn Road before going up onto a pedestrian footbridge. CCTV footage showed the tourist jumping from the footbridge into a canal below, in an incident that matched a drowning report received by Thung Maha Mek Police Station on August 13. Emergency responders recovered the man from the water and performed CPR, restoring his pulse before taking him to Chulalongkorn Hospital. He later died from his injuries.
Police subsequently confirmed the deceased was the Chinese tourist who had been reported missing to Bang Rak Police Station and notified his relatives. The CCTV investigation by Metropolitan Police Division 3, Metropolitan Police Division 6 and Bang Rak police was key to tracing the tourist’s final movements and resolving the missing-person case.
