Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim are set to discuss initiatives to boost border trade and tourism in an upcoming meeting in Songkhla province on Monday (Nov 27). The agenda includes a proposal to exempt Malaysian visitors from the Tor Mor 6 immigration form at five additional checkpoints in Thailand’s deep south, a move that has seen success at the Sadao checkpoint.

Also on the table is the extension of operating hours for night entertainment venues in the Thai-Malaysian border areas to 4 am to stimulate the southern border economy. The meeting will be held at a new immigration checkpoint in Sadao district, part of a network of key checkpoints near the Thai-Malaysian border.

The two leaders are also scheduled to discuss the potential establishment of a special economic zone for border trade, the construction of a new Thai-Malaysian friendship bridge in Narathiwat’s Sungai Kolok district, and collaborative strategies to address the unrest and insurgent activities in the region.
