BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai Airways and Turkish Airlines have signed a Joint Business Agreement (JBA) to operate joint flights on the Bangkok–Istanbul route, marking a significant step toward enhancing air connectivity between Asia and Europe.
The agreement was signed on June 1, during the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting held in New Delhi, India. This strategic partnership unites Thailand’s flag carrier with Türkiye’s national airline, both members of the Star Alliance, to deliver seamless travel experiences and expand their route networks.
The collaboration builds on Thai Airways’ successful launch of seven weekly flights to Istanbul in December 2023. The new joint venture aims to go further by coordinating codeshare flights, aligning schedules, and exploring additional destinations beyond the Bangkok–Istanbul corridor. Pending regulatory approval, the joint operation is expected to begin with the Winter 2025–2026 schedule.
Mr. Chai Eamsiri, CEO of Thai Airways, noted that the deal aligns with the airline’s “Network Airline” strategy, aiming to connect Thailand more efficiently with high-potential destinations. Meanwhile, Prof. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of Turkish Airlines, emphasized that the partnership will strengthen tourism and trade links while offering passengers more flexible and diverse travel options across continents.
Civil aviation authorities in both Thailand and Türkiye have already approved an increase in passenger flight frequencies between the two nations, from the current 42 flights per week.
With this agreement, both airlines expect to turn Bangkok and Istanbul into major transit hubs, opening new opportunities for travelers and businesses alike.
