BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has launched a national climate information center designed to connect climate data from around the world with local information from all 76 provinces, giving government agencies, businesses and local authorities a stronger scientific basis for preparing for climate change. The Climate Change Information Center (CCIC) was officially opened on Tuesday, August 18, by Natural Resources and Environment Ministry Permanent Secretary Raweewan Puridej during the third anniversary of the Department of Climate Change and Environment, also known as the “Climate Change Department.”

The center serves as a national Big Data hub for climate information, bringing together data from international and domestic sources and making it available at the provincial level. The department said the system can assess climate risks by area and conduct long-term risk analysis across six key sectors, including water management, agriculture, public health and tourism, covering all 76 provinces. The information is intended to help government agencies, private businesses and local authorities plan for climate-related risks and make decisions based on scientific evidence.

The center will also support national policy development and Thailand’s efforts to strengthen climate resilience and move toward its Net Zero emissions goal. (TNA)
