BANGKOK, Thailand – Saudia, the national airline of Saudi Arabia, has been selected to transport Thai pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj following a detailed review process, with the airline considered the most suitable option for this year.
The selection follows a policy change allowing Thailand’s Hajj Affairs Promotion Board to choose an airline on an annual basis, replacing an earlier arrangement that assigned the role to a single carrier. This year, six airlines submitted proposals, which were evaluated based on service quality, operational readiness, scheduling capability, and pricing. Saudia met the required criteria across these areas.
The airline has extensive experience handling large numbers of pilgrims during the Hajj season and will operate direct flights from Suvarnabhumi Airport and Hat Yai International Airport to Madinah and Jeddah. These routes are expected to reduce travel time and improve convenience, including for elderly passengers who make up a large share of travelers.
Smud Poomon, an expert from the Hajj Affairs Promotion Board, said the unit will continue reviewing airline options each year to ensure suitable arrangements for Thai pilgrims, with attention on safety, service standards, and reasonable costs. (NNT)
