CHIANG MAI, Thailand – Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya visited an exhibition showcasing Thai textile wisdom and community handicrafts from the Northern region at the Chiang Mai University Convention Center in Chiang Mai Province. The exhibition was organized by the Community Development Department under the Ministry of Interior.
Upon arrival, Her Royal Highness proceeded to view the exhibition of Thai textile wisdom and community handicrafts, which featured a total of 30 booths. On this occasion, Her Royal Highness graciously provided royal advice and recommendations on textile and handicraft works created by members and master artisans of the SUPPORT Foundation. Her Royal Highness also instructed the working team of the “Thai Textiles: Wear with Fun” project to share knowledge and offer guidance on the development of handicraft works for producers, OTOP entrepreneurs, and university students from various institutions.
Entrepreneurs and members of the SUPPORT Foundation have embraced Her Royal Highness’s royal initiative, “Thai Textiles: Wear with Fun,” which encourages people to take pride and enjoyment in wearing Thai textiles and handicrafts. The initiative has further evolved into the concept of “Sustainable Fashion,” promoting appreciation of Thai textiles among people of all ages while generating income for local communities. The initiative also helps revive traditional textile wisdom from various regions that were at risk of disappearing, creating employment, generating income, and improving people’s quality of life in a sustainable manner.
Her Royal Highness later viewed an exhibition of textile and handicraft products from the Royal Project and the “Koyori” Lanna Craft Development and Enhancement Project, which promotes Lanna handicrafts on the international stage. The project represents collaboration between Thai and Japanese master artisans and partner networks. It follows the royal initiatives of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya in elevating Thai textiles and handicrafts through contemporary design innovation while preserving traditional techniques. The effort aims to increase the value of local products and generate sustainable income for communities and the public. (NNT)
