BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul led senior officials and staff of the Ministry of Interior in a tree-care activity today (Oct 21) to celebrate Thailand’s National Annual Tree-Loving Day. The event, held at a garden located within the Ministry’s main compound, promoted environmental conservation and honored the legacy of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother, whose lifelong devotion to forest preservation continues to inspire the nation.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Anutin and his spouse, Thananon Niramit, planted a Yellow Star Tree—the symbolic tree of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn—and watered an Orange Jessamine tree originally planted by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Ministry officials then joined in watering and tending to trees throughout the garden before the event concluded with a group photo session.
Anutin stated that the annual observance expresses deep gratitude to the Princess Mother, who championed forest conservation and sustainable land management. He noted that the activity also serves to remind all Thais of their collective duty to care for the nation’s natural resources and to pass on a healthy environment to future generations.
In the context of global warming, Anutin said tree planting plays an increasingly vital role in restoring the nation’s soil, water, and forest ecosystems.
A Cabinet resolution on October 15, 1990, formally designated October 21 as National Annual Tree-Loving Day. The Interior Ministry holds this event each year to encourage public awareness, appreciation, and stewardship of Thailand’s forests among civil servants and communities across the country.
