The Department of Highways opens the M81 motorway from Bang Yai to Kanchanaburi for trial service during the King Chulalongkorn holiday, free of tolls.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Highways will begin trial operations on the M81 motorway (Bang Yai – Kanchanaburi) from 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, to 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2025, to accommodate increased travel during the King Chulalongkorn Day holiday. The 96-kilometer motorway will be fully open during the trial without toll fees.

The M81 is part of Thailand’s strategic expressway network, linking Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, and Kanchanaburi provinces—key economic, residential, and tourist areas in the western region—and providing an alternative route to southern Thailand. The highway aims to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion on Kanchanaphisek and Phetkasem roads, and enhance safety and convenience for drivers.

The trial covers all eight toll stations: Bang Yai, Nakhon Chai Si, Si Racha Thong, East Nakhon Pathom, West Nakhon Pathom, Tha Muang, Tha Maka, and Kanchanaburi. Currently, the motorway is limited to four-wheel vehicles only and a maximum speed of 80 km/h, as installation work is still underway on certain systems.

Motorists are advised to check their vehicles, follow traffic rules, and adhere to road signs and officer instructions to ensure safe travel throughout the trial period. (TNA)

Drivers on the M81 motorway are advised to follow traffic rules and speed limits of 80 km/h as the route remains under partial construction.
