BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai Meteorological Department has forecast colder weather across upper Thailand until January 10, 2026, with minimum temperatures in Bangkok and its vicinity expected to drop to 17–18°C.
On January 5, upper Thailand will experience lower temperatures and stronger winds. The North and Northeast will be cool to cold, while the Central region, including Bangkok, the East, and the upper South, will have cool mornings. These conditions result from a high-pressure system and cold air mass from China spreading over upper Thailand and the South China Sea. The lower South will receive less rainfall, while moderate northeast monsoon winds will affect the Gulf of Thailand, the South, and the Andaman Sea. Waves in the lower Gulf may reach 2 metres, while the upper Gulf and offshore Andaman Sea will see waves of 1–2 metres, exceeding 2 metres in thunderstorm areas.
From January 6 to 10, another strong cold air mass from China will reinforce cool to cold conditions across upper Thailand, leading to further temperature drops and stronger winds. Rainfall in the South will increase, with heavy rain expected in some lower southern areas. Stronger monsoon winds will raise wave heights, with the lower Gulf seeing waves of 2–3 meters, exceeding 3 meters in stormy areas, and the upper Gulf experiencing waves around 2 meters.
In Bangkok and nearby areas, temperatures on January 5 will decrease by 1–2°C, with minimums of 19–21°C. From January 6 to 10, temperatures are expected to drop by 2–4°C, with minimums of 17–18°C. (NNT)
