BANGKOK, Thailand – The OECD has officially released the results of PISA 2025 (Programme for International Student Assessment)— the global assessment that measures how well 15-year-olds apply their knowledge to real-world situations. For Thailand, the news is good: scores rose in every single subject.
The 2025 assessment focused on science as the primary domain, alongside mathematics, reading, and Learning in the Digital World. A sample of 8,547 Thai students from 273 educational institutions across the country, representing all school systems, participated in this cycle.
Compared to 2022, Thai students improved across the board:
Science: 432 points — a 23-point increase
Mathematics: 407 points — a 13-point increase
Reading: 392 points —a 13-point increase
The result? Thailand moved from 58th to 53rd in the world. Just as importantly, the share of students reaching baseline proficiency or above climbed in every subject, proof that the gains aren’t just averages, but real growth reaching more classrooms.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Education is upgrading its AI Framework and introducing media literacy in primary schools. This prepares students for the PISA 2029 Media and AI Literacy assessment, with the ultimate goal of equipping Thai children with critical-thinking and problem-solving skills for an evolving world.
