BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has ordered a three-month suspension of classes at two Bangkok colleges following repeated violent clashes between rival students, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yodchanan Wongsawat said on Wednesday.
The decision affects Rajamangala University of Technology Tawan-ok (Uthenthawai campus) and Pathumwan Institute of Technology, both located in the capital’s central Pathum Wan district. The order follows a September 7 stabbing incident at a nearby Skytrain station.
Under the emergency measures, both institutions must suspend all on-campus instruction for three months and relocate out of the area. Uthenthawai must finalize a relocation site within three months, while Pathumwan has been directed to find new premises. The land currently occupied by Uthenthawai will be returned to Chulalongkorn University, which owns the property. Officials confirmed the site will be redeveloped as a public learning center rather than for commercial use. (TNA)
