BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has reaffirmed its commitment to biodiversity conservation through stronger collaboration among international organizations, the private sector, and local communities during the “International Day for Biological Diversity 2026,” recently held in Bangkok. Organized by Siam Piwat Group in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme through the Biodiversity Finance Initiative (UNDP BIOFIN) the event was held under the theme “Acting Locally for Global Impact.” The initiative brought together diplomats, environmental experts, academics, business leaders, and civil society representatives to exchange ideas and discuss sustainable solutions for biodiversity protection.
One of the event’s major highlights was the launch of the “NEXTOPIA Gaming Application – Digital Finance for Nature,” an innovative crowdfunding platform on the ONESIAM SuperApp that encourages public participation in ecosystem conservation through interactive digital engagement. Organizers say the initiative reflects new approaches to environmental financing and aims to make conservation efforts more accessible, especially among younger generations. The event also featured international forums, workshops, and exhibitions focusing on biodiversity finance, marine conservation, urban forests, and sustainable lifestyles.
Participants highlighted the importance of cooperation across all sectors to address environmental challenges and protect ecosystems for future generations. In addition, discussions on urban biodiversity emphasized how citizen participation, urban green spaces, and local environmental initiatives can help improve environmental resilience and quality of life in Bangkok. The success of the event helped strengthen public awareness of biodiversity conservation while reinforcing Thailand’s growing role in advancing sustainability and environmental dialogue on the global stage.
