Mohamed Salah named Football Writers’ Player of the Year for 2024-2025 season

Salah dominates with 90% of votes to win his third FWA Player of the Year award.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah was named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year for the 2024-2025 season after an outstanding campaign leading Liverpool to the Premier League title. Salah received an overwhelming 90% of the vote, scoring 28 goals and providing 18 assists, making him instrumental in the Reds’ championship success.

This marks Salah’s third FWA Player of the Year award, following wins in 2017-2018 and 2021-2022, putting him on par with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk finished second in the voting, while Alexander Isak of Newcastle United came in third.



Meanwhile, in Germany, Harry Kane of Bayern Munich was named the Bundesliga Player of the Year after leading his team to the German title. Kane, who scored 26 goals and provided 10 assists in 31 matches, also claimed his second consecutive Bundesliga Golden Boot. The English striker described the season as especially meaningful as it marked the first major trophy of his career, thanking his teammates, the club, and fans for their support.

Elsewhere in Spain, Luka Modrić, the 39-year-old Croatian captain of Real Madrid, announced he will depart the club at the end of the season. His final appearance at the Santiago Bernabéu will be this weekend in Madrid’s La Liga clash with Real Sociedad, which is also the season finale.


Modrić has played 590 matches for Real Madrid since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, scoring 43 goals and contributing 95 assists. He has helped the club win 28 trophies, including six UEFA Champions League titles, six Club World Cups, and four La Liga crowns. Modrić also won the Ballon d’Or in 2018 and the prestigious Marca Legend Award in 2022. (TNA)
