RAYONG, Thailand – A Myanmar woman worker survived a frightening construction accident in Rayong after a sudden soil collapse trapped her inside a 3-meter-deep drainage pit, with colleagues racing against time to pull her to safety. The incident happened at around 1:30 p.m. on August 4 near the Phairak Curve, in front of the Chao Mae Sai Thong Shrine on Sukhumvit Road, Moo 3, Phe subdistrict, Mueang Rayong district. The 38-year-old worker was carrying out cement plastering work inside a drainage pipe when the surrounding soil suddenly gave way, burying her body and leaving her unable to escape on her own.
Her supervisor and fellow workers immediately rushed to help, using their hands to remove soil while bringing in an excavator to lift concrete blocks blocking access to the area. After more than 10 minutes of urgent rescue efforts, they managed to pull the woman out safely. The worker was fortunate to receive help quickly and survived the incident. Details of her injuries were not immediately disclosed.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse and will examine safety measures at the construction site to prevent similar accidents in the future. The incident highlights the dangers faced by construction workers, particularly those working in confined and underground areas where unstable soil conditions can quickly turn routine tasks into life-threatening situations.
