BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will lead a delegation including senior government officials and private-sector representatives on a week-long international mission to Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom from Sept 20–27, seeking new opportunities in trade, investment, technology and digital development.
The trip will combine Thailand’s participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York with business meetings and investment roadshows aimed at connecting Thailand more directly with global investors and major international companies.
The delegation will include Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow and Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob, along with executives from the Thai Capital Market Business Council and the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
The prime minister will first travel to Tokyo on Sept 20, where he is scheduled to meet Thai athletes competing at the 20th Asian Games on Sept 21 and chair a Team Thailand meeting before continuing to New York.
At UNGA81, Anutin is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony and general debate, meet world leaders and senior representatives, and hold talks with Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, the prime ministers of Bhutan, Armenia and Bangladesh, and the United Nations secretary-general. He is scheduled to deliver Thailand’s general debate speech on Sept 24.
This year’s UNGA theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All,” will provide Thailand with an opportunity to present its views on global challenges and pursue international cooperation benefiting the country and its people. The economic agenda will be equally prominent. On Sept 22, Anutin is scheduled to join an investor roundtable organized with Bank of America and Jefferies Group and meet executives from Pacific Investment Management Company (PIMCO).
He will also attend a dinner hosted jointly by the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council and U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where he is expected to address American business leaders on Thailand’s economic potential, investment opportunities and closer economic cooperation. Digital technology and artificial intelligence will be another major focus.
On Sept 23, Anutin is scheduled to visit Google and meet Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer of Alphabet and Google. Chaichanok will join discussions on digital and technology cooperation and visit Google’s technology and innovation facilities, including interactive AI and digital solutions. The talks will cover Thailand’s digital and AI ecosystem, digital infrastructure, workforce skills and creating conditions that encourage global technology companies to invest and operate in the country.
Chaichanok is also scheduled to meet executives from leading US technology companies including Apple, Google and Microsoft during the USABC and USCC dinner, with discussions expected to explore cooperation in AI, innovation, digital skills and future technologies.
The delegation will then travel to London, where the prime minister will join a capital-market roadshow with executives from the Stock Exchange of Thailand. In cooperation with UBS Group AG, the delegation will meet institutional investors and present Thailand’s economic outlook and investment opportunities. Anutin is also scheduled to meet representatives from major UK businesses, including Virgin Atlantic and Rolls-Royce, to explore business, investment and private-sector cooperation. The delegation will leave the UK on Sept 25 and is scheduled to arrive back in Thailand on the morning of Sept 27.
Government spokesman Ekkaphop Phianphiset said the trip is intended to open more direct channels between Thailand and global investors, financial institutions and leading companies, while presenting the country’s economic and capital-market potential.
He said the government hopes the roadshows will broaden Thailand’s international investor base and attract long-term investment, ultimately creating opportunities for investment, employment and income in Thailand.
