PATTAYA, Thailand – Residents and visitors in Pattaya are being urged to remain cautious as Thailand’s Meteorological Department has extended its warning on summer storms, with unstable weather expected to continue into May 2.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department, a weather advisory issued on May 1 (No. 8) highlights that upper Thailand—including the East, where Pattaya is located—will continue to experience summer storms for at least another day.

The conditions are expected to bring thunderstorms, gusty winds, and isolated lightning strikes, driven by a high-pressure system or cooler air mass from China spreading across the Northeast and the South China Sea. This is interacting with the hot to very hot conditions currently affecting much of Thailand, creating instability in the atmosphere.

For Pattaya and surrounding areas in Chonburi, this means a risk of sudden downpours, strong winds, and localized storm activity, particularly in the late afternoon and evening hours.

Authorities are advising the public to avoid open areas during storms, stay clear of large trees and unstable structures, and be cautious around billboards or temporary signage that may not withstand strong winds.

Farmers in the region are also being encouraged to secure crops and reinforce fruit trees to prevent damage, while livestock owners should prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions.

With temperatures remaining high despite the storm activity, health officials recommend that people take extra care during the transition, staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to extreme heat followed by sudden rain.

The warning serves as a reminder that while the storms are expected to ease soon, short-term weather hazards remain a concern across eastern Thailand, including Pattaya.
