Roadwork displaces Spiderman in Phetchaburi

Spiderman Mark Malia said he was pleased to see the T-junction changed into a traffic circle if it means motorists will be safer.

Roadwork is about to put Spiderman out of a job in Phetchaburi.

The central province’s highway department and Tayang District plan to turn a T-junction into a traffic circle to cut traffic and reduce accidents.

But it also means cars won’t stop, depriving a local man named Mark who dresses up as the Marvel comics superhero a chance to sell his flower garlands.

Until construction begins, Mark can earn 250-300 baht income per day for his family.

Called “Hero Malai Spiderman,” Mark earned famed by helping victims of accidents at the junction over the past several years. He occasionally is joined by another person dressed as Iron Man.

While the removal of the junction will mean Spiderman will have to web sling somewhere else, Mark said he was pleased to see the change if it means motorists will be safer.

Ironman has also been spotted selling garlands in the area.
