PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya City has removed a sunken boat wreck from Pattaya Beach as part of efforts to restore the coastline and ensure it is ready to welcome visitors during the upcoming long holiday July 28-29. On the morning of July 27, Suriwat Rermkijjakan, Assistant Secretary to the Pattaya Mayor, together with Pattaya City Council member Dr. Pittaya Phirom-on, led officials from the Natural Resources and Environment Office to Pattaya North Beach to oversee the operation.
The vessel had been stranded since strong winds on July 8 left it heavily damaged. Working alongside the boat owner, city crews used two excavators and a four-wheel-drive utility vehicle to dismantle and remove the wreck, completing the operation in about one hour. Suriwat said the cleanup was a joint effort between Pattaya City and the boat owner to restore the beach’s appearance ahead of the expected influx of tourists during the long holiday.
He explained that the owner had previously sought the city’s assistance because the boat was too badly damaged to be repaired or even repurposed as an artificial reef. After considering several options, city officials decided that removing the wreck entirely was the most appropriate solution.
The operation follows Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet’s policy of keeping the city’s beaches clean, orderly and attractive for both residents and visitors.
City officials also reminded the public that anyone experiencing problems involving public services, including sunken boats or other incidents they cannot resolve on their own, can request assistance from Pattaya City regardless of where they live or their nationality. Residents and visitors can seek assistance in person at Pattaya City Hall during office hours or contact the Pattaya Contact Center 1337, available 24 hours a day, for emergency assistance and public service requests.
