PATTAYA, Thailand – An Italian content creator has won over Thai social media users after jokingly “taking responsibility” for a controversial incident involving Italian tourists on Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain, using pizza and pasta jokes to lighten the mood. Edo Eats Wrong, an Italian creator known for his love of Thailand, posted a humorous video and photos portraying himself as a representative of his country, joking that he would accept the “anger” directed at Italians after the BTS incident.
In one post, Edo sat face-to-face with a pizza topped with sliced mango and tomato sauce, along with a message joking: “What Thai people want to do to Italians after seeing the BTS news.”
The unusual pizza creation quickly attracted attention from Thai netizens, who joined in the joke by suggesting even more “punishments” for Italian cuisine, including breaking spaghetti noodles, creating som tam pizza, adding durian toppings, or making a mango sticky rice-style pizza.
Responding to the growing wave of comments, Edo returned with a second humorous “lesson.” In the video, he dramatically broke spaghetti strands in half with both hands, saying it was done to “make things right.”
He later posted a photo of himself raising his hands in a wai gesture as if apologizing to the ancestors of Italian cuisine, adding the short caption: “Sorry, Mom.” The post sparked laughter and affection from Thai audiences, with many joking that he should go further by using spaghetti in Thai dishes, replacing noodles in local recipes, or even breaking pasta in more dramatic ways.
Despite the jokes, many Thai users defended Edo, pointing out that he had nothing to do with the BTS incident and should not be held responsible for the actions of others. Many said Thai people can distinguish between individuals and do not judge all Italians based on the behavior of a few tourists.
Fans also thanked Edo for his affection toward Thailand and for using humor to ease tensions rather than allowing the controversy to create negative feelings between cultures.
